Stock market investing how to become a broker

If you are interested in stock market and you’ve been investing successfully for quite some time, you might think about a career change, like becoming a stock broker. What you need to do, in order to become a stock broker, is to be interested in stock market and to acquire experience in that field. A formal education in that area is not necessarily needed, but some activity in a brokerage firm is mandatory. So, the first step is to post your resume to some brokerage firms. If a brokerage firm accepts your, you will have to stay there for at least four months, than you are allowed to take a test, called the General Securities Registered Representative Examination. In many states, this is not the only exam you have to pass. There is another examination, known as Uniform Securities Agents State Law Examination. Once you passed those two exams, you have a stock broker license and you can start trading on yourself.

However, stock market investing is something you can learn only from experience. As we said before, there is no such thing as a formal education meant to make you a stock broker. The exams you have to pass in order to get your stock broker license will check if you are familiar with the legislation and the ethic rules conducting stock market brokerage. If you want to become a good broker, you need to spend some time in an established brokerage firm, and to study a lot this industry field. By studying, we mean reading every day financial news, market analysis, company reports and financial statuses.

Once you gain some experience, you can start working as an independent broker, trading stocks for yourself and for other persons – your clients.

Even if there is no mandatory formal education for stock brokers, a college diploma will certainly help you to get into a good brokerage firm. Most stock brokers have a college degree, being specialized in fields such as business, economics, finance. If you are still a student, you can get ready for your future stick broker career by taking a lot of those classes. Many brokerage firms accept interns, so, if you are a college student, take your resume to some good firms. If you get accepted and you accumulate the four mandatory months of experience in a brokerage firm, you’ll be ready to take your stock broker license shortly after graduation.

If you want to work as an independent stock broker, the most important thing is to win the trust of your clients. You won’t be able to do that, unless you prove you have a lot of experience in that industry. This is why your main objective should be to work in a major brokerage firm for at least a few years before becoming an independent broker. No one wants to entrust with money a fresh from college broker.
